A group of volunteers from Medicare For All – Northern Illinois walked in the Fiesta Days parade in McHenry this past week. Despite periods of rain and hail the group stepped off with their signs, banners and a car decked out for the parade.
Two identical banners were hand drawn (like we did in the 70s) for the float. They were hand drawn on purpose to be genuine. Each took several hours to draw. They survived the hailstorm without damage.
At the end of the parade, both banners were signed by all of us who walked in the parade including Jim Walz, Congressional Candidate who is running for office in Illinois 14th Congressional District.
Jim was presented one of the banners to carry the message to other parts of the district. We have a challenge going to see who can get the most signatures on their banner with Jim on his campaign trail and me, when I take my Medicare for All advocacy on the road.
Jim has taken his banner to the Fox Valley Justice picnic and Million March for Medicare in Chicago. The sister banner went to the Chicago Rally: Our Lives on the Line! hosted by Women’s March – Illinois.
The idea is to get all supporters of Medicare for All to sign both banners. Upon election, Jim will take both banners to DC to show his fellow Representatives his mandate.
